go refers to he or it.[1] cek is a common ending for Czech names, a cognomen similar to ski or ska found commonly at the end of Polish names. cek refers to somebody who came from somewhere else.[2] Of the 20,000 most common surnames in Poland, only 28 end in cek.[3] The Polish name of Gocek may owe its suffix to the proximity of many family members to the Czech border.[4]
