synthesisEdit

σύνθεση - composition: τα σύνθετα, οι σύνθετες λέξεις - compounds

morpheme - lexical word - free morpheme=word

....fix, fixum. In greek πρόσφυμα, παράθεμα ....θημα or ....θεμα

Why is the quality of interfix different from that of prefix?

  • the interfix/ένθημα carries no real meaning, whereas the prefix/πρόθημα can be a preposition, even a word. The interfix just serves as 'glue' to stick combining forms or other ...fixes.

συνθετικό - combining form This is a word which occurs in composition, in a first or second or last position.

E.g. αρχαιοελληνικός If i write

  • {af|el|αρχαιο-|ελληνικός} this gives Cat:Greek words prefixed with αρχαιο-

But

The question is: what is αρχαιο-?

  • it is a word appearing in synthesis, in the position which a prefix would have occupied. It is a combinging-form in a prefix-position.

Review the Category:Greek words by prefix Which ones are 'words/combining forms' and which are real 'prefixes'?

  • κρεατό- is the word κρέας, genitive κρέατος so we write: {af|el|κρέας|atl1=κρέας, κρέατ(ος): κρεατ-|-ό-|μύγα} We have two words with an infix between them.

When does a 'word', become also a '...fix'?

  • When it occurs too often in this position. e.g. mega-
  • ...
