editBorrowed from Spanish alfonsino (“Alfonsine”), in honor of Alfonso XII, king of Spain from 1874–1885. The haircut was later known as the “Amadeo cut” or the “Aguinaldo cut”, after Amadeo I of Spain and Emilio Aguinaldo respectively.
