We hypothesized that the bioadvected porewater transport induced through burrow ventilation by a lugworm leads to an increase in the surficial MPB biomass, whereas the reworking activities, including sediment ingestion and defecation, leads to depletion and burial of surficial MPB. Our goal was to understand the combined effect of the opposing forces of porewater bioadvection and sediment reworking.
