Apparently from Portuguese dar-lhe or -lhe (give to him/her/it/them (sg.)), (formerly) used similarly in Daman, Ceylon and Kochi.[1] Most likely also influenced by Cantonese (daa2, to hit, to beat), such as in the formation (daa2 nei5, hit/beat you).
