  1. (politics) A district represented by one or more elected officials.
    When comparing voting systems it is important to know how many representatives are elected from each electoral district.

Electoral district is a formal, academic term. It is often shortened to district, however other terms are used depending on the variety of English. In Canada, although the common term for a federal or provincial electoral district is riding, electoral district is the term used in legislation.
