Old High German edit

Alternative forms edit

Etymology edit

From Proto-West Germanic *falþan. The verb originally showed Grammatischer Wechsel with Germanic þ (OHG d) in the present and Germanic d (OHG t) in the past forms. However, this variation had already been levelled by Old High German times, yielding faldan alongside rarer faltan, each with normalised paradigms.
