1. A European stingray of the obsolete genus Trygon, especially
   1. A common stingray (Dasyatis pastinaca, syns. Raja pastinaca, Trygon pastinaca) of the waters of the eastern North Atlantic and the Mediterranean and Black Seas.

Usage notes

• The numerous species of genus Trygon are now variously assigned to genera Taeniura, Dasyatis, Himantura, Neotrygon, Gymnura, Pteroplatytrygon.
