Etymology

edit

It is uncertain whether the noun fluture came before it or was derived from it. Probably ultimately of imitative origin, through a hypothetical *fâltura. Or linked to Albanian and possibly derived from it; compare flutur. Cognate with Aromanian flitur, fliturari. Other theories suggest a Vulgar Latin root *flucturāre, from Latin fluctuāre, or *flutulāre, from flutāre ("to float"). Compare also Italian fiutola.
