From Old Portuguese lingua, lingoa, lengua, lengoa ‎(tongue, language), from Latin lingua ‎(tongue, language), from Old Latin dingua, from Proto-Italic *denɣwā ‎(tongue), from Proto-Indo-European *dn̥ǵʰwéh₂s ‎(tongue).
