EtymologyEdit

Earlier mocayre, from Middle French mocayart and Italian mocaiaro, both from Arabic مُخَيَّر(muḵayyar, choice), past participle of خَارَ(ḵāra, to choose). Form probably influenced by hair. Compare mockado, moire.
