Etymology

Cognate with Lithuanian nerštas, Latvian nārsts (“spawning”), Latvian nārstot (“to spawn”), from Proto-Baltic [Term?] and Proto-Balto-Slavic *nerṣ-t-. Compare Russian нерест (nerest), Proto-Slavic *nerstъ.
