Old English edit

Etymology edit

From Proto-Germanic *in *wegą (on the/one's way). Judging by Old High German in weg (away, on the/one's way), the sense "away" dates back at least to Proto-West Germanic. Note that the word in was replaced with on in the West Saxon dialect of Old English.

Pronunciation edit

Adverb edit

on weġ

  1. on the/one's way
