  1. (astronomy, meteorology) An upper atmospheric optical phenomena associated with thunderstorms, in which an elve is immediately followed by a sprite.
    • 2006, Martin Füllekrug, Eugene A. Mareev, Michael J. Rycroft, Sprites, elves and intense lightning discharges[1], page 37:
      In the early days of LLTV monitoring it was common to observe an apparent elve followed by a sprite, sometimes called a "sprelve." While elves do indeed precede some sprites, the "sprelve" in most cases, was found to represent a "sprite halo."
