From Proto-West Germanic *Tīwas dag (“Tuesday”, literally “Tiw's Day”), a Germanic interpretation of Latin dies Martis, itself a translation of Ancient Greek Ἄρεως ἡμέρα (Áreōs hēméra) (interpretatio romana).
