Etymology edit
Borrowed from Spanish honras (“honors”), earlier spelled as honrras, or variant ondras, plural of honra (“honor; respect”), corrupted by /d/~/r/ allophony. In Spanish pronunciation, ⟨h⟩ is silent. Ultimately from Latin honōrāre. Compare honras fúnebres (“funeral honors”).
