The earlier form is δίδω (dído) with metaplasm to -νω (-no), from Byzantine Greek δίδω (dídō), from Ancient Greek δίδωμι (dídōmi), from Proto-Indo-European *dédeh₃ti, reduplicated present of *deh₃- (to give).
