From Proto-Turkic *burun (“before, earlier than”). Identical to Proto-Turkic *burun (“nose”) (See морон (moron, “animal's nose”)).
Cognate with Old Uyghur [script needed] (burun, “before”), Khakas пурун (purun, “before, earlier than”).
