From Common Turkic *ked-, from Proto-Turkic *ged- (to put on).[1]

Cognate with Tatar кию (kiyu), Crimean Tatar kiymek, Kyrgyz кийүү (kiyüü), Uzbek kiymoq, Uyghur كىيمەك (kiymek), Turkish giymek, Azerbaijani geymək, etc.
