Inherited from Proto-Slavic *laditi. By surface analysis, лад (lad, harmony, concord) +‎ -ить (-itʹ).

Verb edit

ла́дить (láditʹimpf (perfective пола́дить or нала́дить or зала́дить)

  1. to get on (with), to agree (with), to be on good terms (with)
    они́ не ла́дят
    oní ne ládjat
    they don't get on; they are at odds
  2. (colloquial) to prepare, to make ready, to fix, to tune
  3. (colloquial) to plan
    он ла́дил в го́род е́хать
    on ládil v górod jéxatʹ
    he planned to go to town
  4. (colloquial) to repeat, to keep saying, to drone (on)
    ла́дить одно́ и то же
    láditʹ odnó i to že
    harp on the same string
