Inherited from Proto-Turkic *iāčïg (bitter); cognate with Azerbaijani acı, Bashkir асы (ası), Chuvash йӳҫӗ (jüś̬ĕ), Kazakh ащы (aşy), Kyrgyz ачуу (acuu), Turkmen ājy, Uyghur ئاچچىق (achchiq), Uzbek achchiq and Yakut аһыы (ahıı).
