Etymology edit

Borrowed from Arabic طَنْطَنَة (ṭanṭana, twang, ringing, drum roll), a word of onomatopoeic origin related to طَنَّ (ṭanna, to ring, to clang) and طَنَّان (ṭannān, ringing, buzzing). Compare Azerbaijani təntənə and Bashkir тантана (tantana).
