Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀣𑀭 (thara), from Sanskrit स्तर (stara), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *starHás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *starHás, from Proto-Indo-European *storh₃-ós. Cognate with Marathi थर (thar). Doublet of स्तर (star). See पत्थर (patthar) for more.
