Etymology edit

From Proto-Indo-European *sm̥-, zero-grade of *sem- (one). The second part is obscure, but the word may be some syncope of *ἁ-πακυς, from Proto-Indo-European *sm̥-pn̥kʷu- ((lit.) all-one). See Latin cūnctus.
