Chevrel phase (plural Chevrel phases)

  1. (inorganic chemistry) A series of molybdenum chalcogenide compounds, of general formula MxMo6X8 (where M = a metal and X = a chalcogen), that have superconducting properties.
    Synonym: Chevrel cluster
