Etymology edit
From Proto-Austronesian *di-ni (“here”). The latter half of the word is possibly related to iri/ire/idi. See also ganiri and other Tagalog demonstrative pronouns. Meanwhile, the former half is possibly related to Malay di and Indonesian di as a likely cognate. Compare Cebuano ini, Tausug dī, and Malay ini.
Pronunciation edit
Adverb edit
dini (Baybayin spelling ᜇᜒᜈᜒ) (dialectal)
Usage notes edit
- Used in most dialects except standard or Manila Tagalog.
- When the preceding word ends with a vowel, ⟨w⟩, or ⟨y⟩, rini is used instead.
