As a feminine noun, taken from ġeposu pl (literally (the) snorts), plural of ġepos n (a sneeze, snort), from Proto-Germanic *pusą (sneeze, snort), from Proto-Germanic *pusōną, *pusjaną (to blow, snort), from Proto-Indo-European *bew- (to blow, swell). Related to Middle Low German pûsten (to snort), Middle High German phūsen (to sneeze, snort), Old Swedish pýsa (to snort).
