Perhaps a variant of ibar (“valley”), the meaning “north wind” is believed to be earlier. Maybe an abbreviation of ibar haize (“valley wind”), parallel to Romance formations like Old French vent d'aval.

First attested in 1823. Back-formation from iparkodik (“to try hard, to strive”). Created during the Hungarian language reform, which took place in the 18th–19th centuries.[1]
