Borrowed from Hindustani جواب (jvāb) / जवाब (javāb), from Classical Persian جواب (jawāb), from Arabic جَوَاب (jawāb, “answer, reply”).

- (India, historical) An answer, especially a dismissal, or a woman's rejection of a marriage proposal.
- (India) Anything erected or planted as a symmetrical double.
