Portuguese edit

Etymology edit

From Vulgar Latin *lacrimizāre. The reason for there being a /k/ instead of the expected */ɡ/ (cf. lágrima) is not apparent.

Pronunciation edit

  • Hyphenation: la‧cri‧me‧jar

Verb edit

lacrimejar (first-person singular present lacrimejo, first-person singular preterite lacrimejei, past participle lacrimejado)

  1. to tear up (have watery eyes before crying)
    Synonym: marejar
