From Middle Welsh llauer, from Proto-Celtic *lawaros (compare Old Irish lour (enough), modern Irish (go) leor), from Proto-Indo-European *leh₂w- (benefit, prize); compare Ancient Greek λᾱρός (lārós, tasty).
