Etymology edit

From Old Irish tengae,[1] from Proto-Celtic *tangʷāss (compare Welsh tafod), from Proto-Indo-European *dn̥ǵʰwéh₂s (tongue, speech, language). The alternative form teangaidh was originally the dative singular.
