Alternative forms edit
- escire (archaic or Tuscan)
Etymology edit
From older escire, from Latin exīre, from ex + eō (“to go”). The word may have been phonetically influenced by the etymologically unrelated uscio (“door”).
Compare Sicilian nèsciri, Catalan eixir, Romanian ieșire, Old Spanish exir and Old French issir.
