From Ottoman Turkish اوزنمك (üzenmek, “to take pains, to be pains-taking”),[1] from Ottoman Turkish اوز (öz, “pith, essence, the self”), from Proto-Turkic *ȫŕ (“inside, the essential part, the self”),[2] morphologically öz + -en + -ti.
