Etymology edit

According to Beekes, from Proto-Indo-European *preh₁- (blow, blaze). The verb has been influenced in form by πίμπλημι (pímplēmi).

  2. (passive voice) to become inflated or swollen
  3. (of a person) to spout (blood from a wound)
