πλήμνη
Ancient Greek edit
Etymology edit
Traditionally associated with πίμπλημι (pímplēmi, “to fill”), but this is popular etymology. Beekes preferably derives it from Proto-Indo-European *kʷel- (“to turn”), the same root of πόλος (pólos, “axis, pole”).
