Learned borrowing from Koine Greek σχέδιον (skhédion), neuter form of σχέδιος (skhédios, near, close; temporary); in the modern sense of "design, draft", semantic loan from Italian schizzo (rough sketch) (though etymologically unrelated, despite similar phonetics and semantics).
