Inherited from Old East Slavic мѣзиньць (mězinĭcĭ, youngest son), from Proto-Slavic *mězinьcь. By surface analysis, мізи́нний (mizýnnyj) +‎ -ець (-ecʹ). Cognate with Old Church Slavonic мѣзиньць (mězinĭcĭ, youngest son).
