Etymology edit
From Proto-Slavic *ne + *este, second-person plural present tense form of *byti. This formation later created *ne jesmъ in the South Slavic vernaculars, which merged to become něste (attested in the 14th century). Because of the yat reflex, něste became rendered as несте in Ekavian speeches.
