Etymology edit

Formally inherited from Proto-Slavic *prętati. Sometimes confused for similarly sounding пре́тя (prétja, to order, to bid) (dialectal) < *pertiti.

Gerov lists the root vowel as -ѣ- (for the derivative пре́ткам (prétkam, to bury))
