Etymology edit

Possibly from Proto-Finno-Ugric *ćappɜ- (to hit with a clapping sound, strike). Potential cognates include Northern Sami čuohppat, Kildin Sami чӯһпэ (čūhpe), Udmurt чапкон (ćapkon, palm strike), Hungarian csap (to strike). Ultimately onomatopoeic.
