Etymology edit
The origin is uncertain.
According to Ačaṙyan, the name was invented by Movsēs Xorenacʿi. He notes that the similarity to the Persian names آرمین (ârmin) and ارمنی (armani) is accidental.
On the other hand, Perixanjan derives from Middle Median *Arāmanī + -ակ (-ak), from Proto-Iranian *Rāma(n)-nī- (“bringing peace/joy”) or *Rāma-manya- (“possessing calm/joyous mood”), both from *Rāma- (“joy, peace”), on which see Արամ (Aram).
