From Middle Iranian *raxti +‎ (-kʻ), with the expected prothetic ե- (e-) before ր- (r-). Compare Persian رخت (raxt, sadness, grief), Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (lhtn' /⁠raxtan⁠/, to vex, to grieve, to exhaust), [Book Pahlavi needed] (lnc /⁠ranǰ⁠/, toil, trouble), possibly also Sanskrit रक्ति (rakti, affection, attachment, devotion), रक्त (rakta, beloved, dear).
