From Middle Iranian *raxti + -ք (-kʻ), with the expected prothetic ե- (e-) before ր- (r-). Compare Persian رخت (raxt, “sadness, grief”), Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (lhtn' /raxtan/, “to vex, to grieve, to exhaust”), [Book Pahlavi needed] (lnc /ranǰ/, “toil, trouble”), possibly also Sanskrit रक्ति (rakti, “affection, attachment, devotion”), रक्त (rakta, “beloved, dear”).
