Etymology edit

An Iranian borrowing +‎ -ան- (-an-): compare Middle Persian [script needed] (hwstwk' /⁠xwastūg⁠/, confessing, believing), Persian خستو (xostu, confessing). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-Iranian *swá and *staw- (to praise), from Proto-Indo-European *stew-.[1][2][3]
