Etymology edit
The word is attested only once and is derived Middle Persian *hwlʾk' (xvarāk). Compare Persian خوراک (xvarâk, xorâk, “food”). These derive from Proto-Iranian *hwar- (“to eat, consume”), whence another borrowing խորտիկ (xortik); see it.
