Inherited from Sanskrit इष्टका (íṣṭakā, brick), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hišt- (brick), possibly from the BMAC substrate. Compare Urdu اِینْٹ (īnṭ) / Hindi ईंट (ī̃ṭ).
