South Levantine Arabic
edit
Etymology
edit
Learned borrowing from Arabic بِالضَّبْطِ (bi-ḍ-ḍabṭi), corresponding to بـ (b-, “by”) + الزبط (iẓ-ẓabṭ, “the exactness”).
Pronunciation
edit
- IPA(key): /bizˤ.zˤabtˤ/, [bɪzˤˈzˤɑbtˤ]
بالزبط • (biẓ-ẓabṭ)
- exactly, precisely
Usage notes
edit
- The spelling with ز is the most common one, although it represents an emphathic sound here, since it is not derived form the Standard Arabic ظ (ẓ) and the emphathicness is spreading from the last letter ط (ṭ) through the whole word anyway.
