Inherited from Proto-Turkic *bōnčuk (bead), a development from *bōń (neck). Cognate with Azerbaijani muncuq, Kazakh моншақ (monşaq), Kyrgyz мончок (moncok), Turkmen monjuk, Uyghur مونچاق (monchaq) and Uzbek munchoq.
