From Middle Iranian (compare Manichaean Parthian 𐫎𐫝𐫡 (ṯcr /*tažar/, “palace, dwelling”)), from Old Persian 𐎫𐎨𐎼 (t-c-r /tačara-/, “palace”). Akin to Old Armenian տաճար (tačar), Old Georgian ტაძარი (ṭaʒari), ტაზარი (ṭazari) and Arabic طَزَر (ṭazar), Iranian borrowings.
