From Middle Persian tʾhtk' (taxtag, tablet, plank, (chess) board), from tʾht' (taxt, throne) and the suffix -k' (-ag). Compare Old Armenian տախտակ (taxtak), Aghwan 𐔳𐔰𐕀𐕜𐔰𐕄 (daxṭaḳ), and Arabic تَخْتَج (taḵtaj), Middle Iranian borrowings.
